eDiscovery Services
While they may seem extreme to some, these measures ensure that any evidence collected by LCG or electronic media preserved by LCG is done according to industry best practices and is verifiable, repeatable, and defensible.
Defensible Preservation
For the past 15 years, LCG has played a pivotal role in some of the most significant physical and/or electronic evidence collection and handling incidents in the United States. Our experience includes many decades of experience in the successfully defended collection of innumerable pieces of digital and physical evidence and includes notable incidents such as:

Where it Counts
When risk demands action, LCG will be the first option every time..
Transocean oil rig explosion/oil spill (2010) – LCG was responsible for the collection and electronic preservation of all digital media (computers, external media, cellular phones, blackberry devices, PDA, file servers, email, etc.), resulting in the collection and preservation of 14 Petabytes (1,400 Terabytes) of data.
Plains All American/Refugio Pipeline spill (2015) – LCG was solely responsible for the collection and electronic preservation of all digital media and electronic data sources (computers, cellular phones, emails, network shares, external storage, etc.)
Kansas City Police Department Evidence Warehouse Fire (2018) – LCG developed an evidence handling, decontamination and relocation protocol for the largest police department in Missouri. This resulted in the collection, secure transport, and relocation of over 1 million pieces of criminal evidence that underwent numerous successful court challenges by defense counsel.
What Is At Risk?
Data
Data integrity is critical to the success of any litigation case in both state and federal court. Incomplete or inaccurate digital evidence can result in an unfavorable outcome and possibly sanctions. To ensure that electronic information is collected and preserved correctly, it is essential to use a reputable eDiscovery provider with a proven track record. LCG has over two decades of experience managing and preserving data for litigation cases.
Time
Time is of the essence in any legal case. The sooner relevant information is collected and preserved, the better the legal hold. A legal hold on its own is NOT Preservation. Delays can result in data being lost or corrupted, which can be detrimental to the case. Additionally, hardware failures, viruses and other factors not typically considered can decimate the best intentions of a legal hold process. LCG understands the importance of timely data collection and preservation, and that’s what we aim to do as one of the best eDiscovery consulting firms in the nation. We have a team of professionals who are experts in their field and use the latest technologies to collect and preserve data.
Inadmissible Evidence
If potentially relevant digital evidence is not collected and preserved properly, it may be deemed inadmissible in a state or federal court. This can be detrimental to the case and may result in severe sanctions. LCG understands the importance of collecting and preserving data properly. We leverage decades of law enforcement and government experience and evidence handling standards to ensure that LCG always adheres the strictest evidence handling protocols in world.
eDiscovery FAQ
What is eDiscovery?
To deal with this change the much needed Federal Rules for Civil Procedure (FRCP) were updated to include electronically stored information (ESI) into the Discovery process. Hence the term eDiscovery (Electronic Discovery). Because the court had no way to verify the authenticity of an electronic document or communication event, the FRCP required the use of a qualified Computer Forensic Expert to collect the data in a forensically sound manner and control the transfer of that data between the parties and eventually the court, in a manner that could be forensically verified and repeated by an opposing expert.
Is eDiscovery Expensive?
This is why LCG is NOT a Vendor and DOESN’T provide Vendor related services (one of the very few in the nation). LCG knows the Vendor process produces little to no relevant investigative results and that when it is used for this purpose, eDiscovery becomes EXTREMELY expensive and the end client never gets the results they deserve.
By including LCG in the eDiscovery strategy, LCG experienced investigative experts can find the absolute best “smoking gun” evidence quickly and efficiently, while a Vendor can focus on providing the privilege review and production services that their tools were designed for.
Any company that tells you that a Vendor can produce the same level of evidentiary results that LCG is offering is unequivocally LYING. LCG could increase its annual revenue by 10x minimum just by offering these Vendor related services, but the enticement to sell those services over the investigative services would be too great and not in our client’s best interest. At LCG, we put ETHICS over profiting at the expense of our Client’s case.

Evidence Audit Services
Combined with our decades of criminal evidence collection, this civil evidence has led to procedures and methods designed with the most stringent chain of custody methodology, documentation, and tracking that is universally admissible in court. Beyond the primary role in the BP/Macondo Well event involving 14PB (14,000,000GB) of data that LCG was entrusted with, LCG has the esteemed honor being the ONLY company ever to be engaged by a major Metropolitan Police Department to take control over their entire warehouse of evidence (over 1 million items) following a catastrophic event. LCG assumed full chain of custody of all evidence and was fully responsible for the identification, logging, photographing, transfer (new offsite location via 2 tractor trailers per day), upacking, logging, cleaning, repacking, logging and storing of all 1,000,000+ evidence items without a single item misplaced, or misdocumented and the entire process was completed in under 90 DAYS! LCG utilized over 25 of its former law enforcement personnel who were flown in, onsite and working in under 48 hours. LCG had its process challenged in court 5 times and unquestionably won each challenge to a degree that upon the 5th challenge the court made a standing order that LCG had satisfied every possible argument and challenge to a degree that the process could no longer be challenged in future litigation.
Bottom line… LCG is the best and ONLY choice when it comes to evidence chain of custody audits. No company comes close to LCG’s experience, accuracy, and proficiency!
